There are a variety of ways to make a lasting contribution toward improving the environment and ensuring Lake Tahoe, Lake Baikal, and other precious ecosystems are preserved for future generations. Below is a summary of the various ways you can make a financial commitment from your will, living trust, or other estate plans to protect the environment. Planned Giving Options

We encourage our friends and supporters to include the Tahoe-Baikal Institute in their estate plans with a planned gift. By including TBI in your estate plan, you ensure continued support of the Tahoe-Baikal Institute’s unique international programs.

A Bequest in your will or living trust
The most direct way to leave a legacy embodying your commitment to international collaboration at Lake Tahoe and Lake Baikal is to give a set amount or a percentage of your estate through your will or living trust. Contact us at TBI for needed wording and support — 530-542-5599.

Life Insurance
You can name the Tahoe-Baikal Institute as a beneficiary of any individual or group term life insurance policy. You can also donate a life insurance policy to the Tahoe-Baikal Institute during your lifetime. There are specific tax deductions available depending on the type of policy and whether it is fully paid or not. You should discuss your specific policies with your legal advisor.

IRA, 401(k), and Other Qualified Retirement Plans
You can name the Tahoe-Baikal Institute as a beneficiary of your retirement plan. Retirement plan distributions may be taxed more heavily to your heirs than other assets and may therefore be an appropriate choice for a planned gift to a charitable beneficiary.

Stock
Upon the receipt of a gift of stock, the Tahoe-Baikal Institute will sell the stock for its current value.

Real Estate
You can donate a residence or vacation home to the Tahoe-Baikal Institute, retaining lifetime use for yourself and your family. You can state special conditions for future use and sale. Be sure to discuss this ahead of time with the Tahoe-Baikal Institute to make sure your wishes can be honored. There are tax advantages to this type of donation – please consult your tax advisor.
